Moto Guzzi Griso, The (almost) Production
Version

Moto Guzzi presented the Griso in their pavilion
at Intermot 2004 in Munich, a concept bike we have seen in Tokyo
and Milano already - this time with many detail changes to the
prior versions, and the announcement, that the bike "nears
production". The Griso is expected it to be available in
Italy in early fall of 2005, in the rest of the world early in
2006.
There is still uncertainty about an exact time frame for production
until the merger between Moto Guzzi and Piaggio is signed, not
leaving out of consideration that also Ducati may make a last
minute attempt to merge with Moto Guzzi. However that plays out
, have a look at the 2005/2006 Moto Guzzi Griso.
Tech is at the bottom as usual.

Griso. The uncompromising
naked
There are simply not enough superlatives to describe the motorcycle
that is about to hit the streets. Anti-conformist, uniquely individual,
radical in its use of technology, the Griso is traditional in
just one thing; the unmistakable shape of its 90° V-Twin
power unit.
The Griso is concrete proof of Moto Guzzi's new found personality
and charisma.
The Griso is the perfect expression of Guzzi's spirit of innovation.
It exudes power, even when stationary, and when it moves it maintains
all its promises. The Griso first drew attention to itself at
the last Intermot. The curiosity it aroused then is now about
to be satisfied. The final prototype will be on show at this
year's Intermot, in the highly evolved form that is about to
be put into production.
The validity of the original concept bike can be appreciated
from the fact that 90% of its design features remain unchanged.
The most important development is the new V 1100 Evolution engine
and the revolutionary shaft drive system shared with the new
Breva V 1100.
Freedom of mind.
The rules were simple. There were no rules. Thanks to this total
freedom of mind the motorcycle that grew around Moto Guzzi's
1,064 cc engine - a legend in its own right and now radically
updated - was innovative, decisive and totally unique. Powerful
yet compact, ready to devour the road, the Griso has all the
power of the character from Italian literature after whom it
is named.
Griso was the muscular bodyguard in the classical Italian novel
"I Promessi Sposi", Alessandro Manzoni's masterpiece
set in the country around Mandello del Lario, on the Lecco side
of Lake Como. The novel was written in the eighteenth century
and set in the sixteenth, but the Griso comes to us from the
future.
The impressive spars of the frame embrace the beautifully shaped
tank in a high-tech hug that achieves a perfect balance between
visual impact and functionality. The exhaust collectors criss-cross
in an aggressive display of chrome to highlight the unmistakable
profile of the 90° V-Twin, now completely redesigned and
equipped with electronic fuel injection. The engine powers the
rear wheel through Moto Guzzi's robust patented 'CA.R.C.' reactive
drive shaft incorporated in the aluminium swingarm.
The chassis components further enhance the Griso's striking beauty
and thrilling ride. The robust 43 mm up-side fork is adjustable
in spring preload and in hydraulic compression and rebound damping.
Rising rate linkages coupled to a fully adjustable monoshock
damp the rear wheel. The elegant brakes are powerful too. The
front wheel is equipped with two 320 mm floating stainless steel
discs and callipers with four opposed pistons. The rear brake
features a floating calliper with parallel pistons.
Historical imagery and the latest technology combine to breathe
life into a motorcycle with uncompromising personality, designed
with a freedom of mind that lets it match the needs and preferences
of whoever rides it. The Griso was born and grew up on typically
Italian terrain, on the exhilarating bends of the lakeside roads
and the hairpins of the mountains. The Griso has learned to master
this terrain and to perform on it with consummate class. It has
metabolised every curve, every lean and every straight to guarantee
riders the sort of sensitivity and reaction that define the very
spirit of motorcycling.
The Griso is a café racer with attitude, a thoroughbred
naked, an anti-conformist custom, and a radical muscle bike rolled
into one. In short, it is a bike of many souls.
The chance to discover them all is just one of the many sides
of its irresistible fascination.
