Aprilia,
BMW Motorcycle Join Forces
The positive year of 2005 continues
for Aprilia: after the affirmative launch of the new Atlantic
500 Sprint, another important event is registered. Today in Munich
(Baveria), an agreement of cooperation was signed between Aprilia
and BMW Motorrad which will unite the two production houses in
the motorcycle design and production fields.
The news, a rumor for quite some time, was finally officially
confirmed. The significance of the agreement between Aprilia
and the German brand centers around a future offering of products
in sectors beyond those that BMW currently operates in which
will be carried out in Aprilia factories in both Noale and Scorzè.
A productive link both solid and important reaffirms the previous
positive cooperation between the two companies. Between 1993
and 1999 it was Aprilia that produced the first generation of
the single-cylinder BMW F 650, a model that enjoyed great success,
before the production of subsequent generations was transferred
to a BMW facility in Berlin.
The satisfaction showed by the President of Aprilia, Doctor Roberto
Colaninno, was telling: "The accord reached with BMW Motorrad
is confirmation of Aprilia's great name and efficiency in the
field of technology and design. Beyond that, it is a significant
step forward towards Aprilia's complete economic recovery, one
of the most important names and constructors of motorcycles in
Italy and Europe since it was acquired by Piaggio."
The comments of Rocco Sabelli, engineer and Aprilia managing
administrator, were also positive when he underlined that "this
type of cooperation will give us an advantage over other European
companies in international competition. The results of such cooperation
optimize our investment in research and development, not to mention
product and technological innovation."
The President of BMW Motorrad, Doctor Herbert Diess, underlines:
"This is about an ulterior enlargement of BMW's gamut of
motorcycle models and not the existing single-cyclinders (The
F-Series). In this cooperation we foresee, amongst other aspects,
an important contribution to the strengthening of the European
motorcycle industry and related providers."
