EICMA: MV Agusta Brutale 910R

Captivating style, a great temperament
and engine technology par excellance. But also a fanatical eye
to detail and sophisticated fittings. All these qualities have
long been recognised in the both the 750 and 910 Brutale.
Now just try to imagine these properties boosted by improved
performance, better braking and the handling characteristics
of a full race machine. This would be the 910R. It is a motorcycle
for every but, under the right circumstances, capable of rewarding
its rider with the behaviour and riding sensation that are more
in line with full race machine.

The MV Agusta Brutale 910R derives from the S version and keeps
the same elegant lines that are so much loved by the general
public. There are now several modifications that make it even
more dynamic and aggressive. As far as appearanc the R version
features changes relating to the frame and mechanicals in comparison
to the model S.
It must be said that this has great style value making the machine
identifiable by means of various elements like the red rocker
box cover, the black forged aluminium wheels and the Brembo brakes
with their distinctive radial calipers and enlarged discs.
DESIGN
The Brutale 910R is characterised by a colour scheme that underscores
the volume of the lines thanks to the use of dark polychrome
shades and slashes of graphic red that copy the colour of the
rocker box cover. The Brutale 910R is adorned with customised
graphics that distinguish it from the 910S.

The factors that differentiate it from the S model are as follows:
· New R colour scheme
· New 910R logo
· Tachometer with new numerical scale and Brutale logo.
· Rider and pillion passenger saddle in "Pieni Fiore"
leather
· Red rocker box cover
· Anodised black fork uprights
· Titanium treated surface applied to:
Lower steering flange
Swinging arm
Frame plates
Handlebar counterweights
EQUIPMENT
The Brutale 910R is fitted with state-of-the-art technical systems
worthy of a competition machine. This is clearly seen in the
braking and suspension systems that differ from the 910S as follows:
1 . Brembo Monoblock P4/34 radial brake calipers
2. Aluminium Ø320 mm Brembo discs
3. Radial caliper struts
4. Marzocchi USD Ø50 mm R.A.C. forks (Road Advanced Component.)
5. Brembo forged aluminium wheels with Y spokes
6. Euro 3 engine
7. Hand polished inlet ducts.
FRAME
The frame on the new Brutale 910R is still the only frame in
the four-cylinder production category to be made from chrome-molybdenum
steel tubing. This offers a considerable advantage in terms of
compactness, mechanical access and torsional rigidity. The tubular
structure is made at the MV AGUSTA plant in Morazzone (VA) and
unites the swingarm pivot plates where both the rear swingarm
and the saddle support bracket are connected. The sculpted single
swingarm, apart from its phenomenal style, was created as much
for its beauty as for its unmistakeable technical efficiency
by the engineers from the CRC (Centro Ricerche Cagiva).
SUSPENSION
The Brutale 910R marks the debut of Marzocchi USD Ø50
mm R.A.C. (Road Advanced Component) forks. These forks are the
prestigious item made by the Bolognese factory. They feature
a multi-adjustable unit (13 compression settings and 32 for rebound)
fitted with carbon nitride treated uprights designed for improved
slide characteristics. The looks also differ in the anodised
black stays that add to this specific model. Rear suspension
is looked after by a single adjustable Sachs shock absorber with
rebound-compression damping and spring preload adjustment depending
on a simple setting that esdistinguish between the absorption
of a high or low speed shock.
BRAKES
The MV Agusta Brutale 910R heralds the introduction of a Brembo
brake system featuring radial P4/34 calipers that are customised
with the Brutale logo. This monoblock braking system derived
from competition Superbike and Moto GP machinery has a strut
to provide increased rigidity mounted on radial adaptors made
exclusively for MV Agusta. The larger Ø 320mm disc with
steel braking bands have aluminium flanges. The rear brake remains
an unchanged four-
piston (opposed) caliper unit, acting on a 210 mm disc. The Nissin-designed
front brake and clutch levers are exclusive to MV Agusta and
can be micrometically adjusted. The Brembo forged aluminium wheels
with Y spokes measure 3.50" x 17" at the front, and
6.00" x 17" at the rear. Tyres are 120/70 ZR 17 up
front with 190/55/17 at the rear.
ENGINE
The Brutale 910R is becoming more and more like the top sports
model in the MV range - the F41000R. This statement applies not
just to the technical configuration and thus the superb performance
characteristics, but also to meeting the anti-pollution standards
imposed by Euro 3 legislation on the motorcycle market. Briefly,
the Magneti Marelli 1.6M ECU is replaced by the 5SM for a complete
engine management overhaul. This has led to considerable advantages
in terms of performance that can be compared with what happened
to the sports F41000S that now retired and the 2006 version of
the F41000R. From the latter, the Brutale engine got the new
intake valve angles that are now 10.15° instead of 9.5°.
It also got new bimetallic valves and pistons from the F4R giving
it another 2 CV maximum power output and especially better overall
delivery at all engine speeds.
Euro 3 homologation called for the introduction of a classic
lambda probe positioned inside the exhaust immediately after
the catalyser.
For this reason the exhaust system is now a one-piece system
as opposed to the original three-piece unit. With no joints there
is less chance that disturbances in air-flow can affect overall
carburetion settings. The Brutale engine is better prepared than
ever to deal with cold starts thanks to the new engine management
system that improves uptake and usability and that provides a
top speed of 260 kph (161.56 mph). The engine has also been fitted
with a new
secondary air intake system. This unit looks after optimising
carburetion in line with trigger the catalyser and making the
bike more rideable especially when the throttle is feathered
at speeds of up to 120 kph (75 mph) (the speed limit at which
emissions are measured for homologation). The filtered air reaches
the injector ECU operated solenoid valve via a series of pipes
and is introduced into the exhaust manifold where it dilutes
exhaust gases and improves the performance of the catalyst. This
in turn allows a better use of the air/petrol mix with a richer
ratio. The whole system is built into a new profile rocker box
cover made from magnesium instead of aluminium.
PERFORMANCE
From the performance point of view, the new 910 engine outstrips
the previous version both in terms of delivery and maximum output.
Superb tuning of the four-cylinder engine has created a substantial
increase in the maximum torque available. This has increased
from 7.9 Kgm at 10,500 rpm from the 750cc engine to 9.8 Kgm at
7,900 rpm.
The most impressive fact however when compared with the 750 is
the increase in mid-range power. +21 CV at 5,000 rpm, +24 at
7,000 rpm and +29CV at 8,000 rpm where the 910 puts out its maximum
torque.
The engine then goes on up to 11,000 rpm at which point the maximum
power output of 139 CV is reached (144 with racing exhaust and
CDI system) . Although the maximum speed for this type of machine
is a rather secondary matter, it has increased by 7 kph. The
increased souplesse in motion, provided by the extra capacity,
means better fuel consumption than the 750 in both the urban
and extra-urban cycles.
